Astley Hall Museum and Art Gallery
Chorley's famous Astley Hall Museum and Art Gallery is often referred to as the 'Jewel in Chorley's crown' and features among the Simon Jenkins book 'Britain's Best 1,000 Houses'.
Astley Hall is one of the most significant buildings in the North West, with a fascinating history of families who lived there and some magnificent architecture.
The historic hall has been given full accreditation by the Museums, Libraries and Archives Council (MLA) meaning it can offer bigger and better exhibitions to visitors. Click here for the full story.

The Astley Biennial Open Exhibition 2009
The popular exhibition returns in both the Hall and new Coach House Gallery. Work should be delivered to Astley Coach House on June 13 and 14 between 2pm and 4pm. For more information view the

Opening Times and Directions
The Hall is open from early April until October - Astley Hall, the coach house and walled garden re-open for 2009 in April. We will be open Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays 12-5pm. Click here for full details of opening times.
The Hall is located off Hallgate, Astley Villageapproximately 4 miles off junction 9 of the M61. Follow the brown signs from Chorley Hospital or from the M61 exit. Click here to view a map.
History
The history of the Hall itself is full of intrigue, with stories of plotting and religious turmoil. It dates back to Elizabethan times with changes and additions over the centuries, all helping make a visit to the Hall a fascinating and enjoyable experience. This grade 1 listed building is the jewel in Chorley's crown, with stunning plaster work and architectural features. As the town's museum and art gallery it is also home to items of local historical interest.
