How to make a claim
To make a new claim for Housing Benefit, Council Tax Benefit or Second Adult Rebate you need to complete a claim form.
If you do not register your intention to make a claim you may lose benefit.
How do I make a claim?
Once you have registered your intention to claim benefits download our
claim form or contact us and we will send you a copy. Complete the form, sign it and return it to us as soon as possible.
How do I return the form?
You can either post it back to us with all the proof that we need or you can bring the form and proof to our Customer Services team based at the Union Street offices. If you post the form you should receive a receipt within seven days.
What if I cannot get the proof straight away?
Return the claim form immediately and then send or bring the proof to us as soon as you can within one calendar month.
What if I claim other benefits?
If you are also claiming Income Support, Job Seekers Allowance or Pension Credit, the Department for Work and Pensions/The Pension Service will include a Housing/Council Tax Benefit claim form in the claim pack they send you.
What if I have any questions about the process?
