Election Night Live

Elections 2009

PEOPLE waiting to see who is going to win the local and General Election in Chorley will be able to find out first on Chorley Council's website www.chorley.gov.uk.

Election night is always an exciting occasion and this year promises to be no different with residents voting for who they would like to represent them in Parliament and on the local council.

Residents will be able to find out what happens at the count and who has been elected first by visiting the council website or following the authority on the social networking site Twitter.

Donna Hall, Chorley Council's Chief Executive and Returning Officer for the elections, said: "The elections are one of the most exciting times of year in local government and we will be keeping residents up-to-date with what's happening with live updates from the count.

"We've already had a lot of interest in the elections with many people registering to vote in the last few weeks and we will let people know who has been elected using our website and through social networking sites.

"Obviously people will still be able to read about the elections in the media but we are keen to communicate with residents in different ways and you will be able to find out what happens first live from the Town Hall."

This year all residents registered to vote will be able to choose who they want to stand as their MP for the next parliament with a third of the borough's council wards also up for election on Thursday, May 6.

The General Election votes will be counted on the night with results expected in the early hours of Friday morning.

The local election votes will be counted on the Friday afternoon with results expected from about 2pm.

Live updates will be posted on www.chorley.gov.uk/electionsthroughout the counts and you will also be able to follow @ChorleyCouncil on Twitter for the results as they happen.
