Data protection and freedom of information
The Data Protection Act 1998 is designed to cover the collecting, storing, processing and distribution of personal data.
It gives people rights over information about them. The Freedom of Information Act 2000 provides a general right of access to recorded information held by public authorities in England, Northern Ireland and Wales.
