Household waste - rubbish collections
Missed bins, request for bins and containers and assisted collections - you'll find it all here!
When is my bin collection day?
Click here to find out. Please remember all collections in the week following Bank Holidays are usually a day later than normal. Collections are not usually made on Good Friday or Easter Monday. In the week following Easter Monday collection days will also change.
Useful tips
- Any hazardous or toxic waste, liquids, soil, rubble, DIY or heavy items should not be placed in your wheeled bin;
- We do not allow any waste to be left beside wheeled bins. Anywaste found will be left;
- The standard wheeled bin size is 240 Litres, which most properties are issued with. These can be exchanged for smaller ones if requested; and
- You can number your bin to help prevent it being stolen and also aids collectors.
Missed bins
If your bin was out for 7am and there was no obstruction or access problems for the collection vehicle, then we will arrange for your bin to be emptied. Please report it to us here.
Damaged bins and containers
If you have previously had a wheeled bin at your property but it is now missing or damaged, you can request a new here.
Request for bins and containers
If you have moved into a new property, either an existing property or new-build, there is a charge of £41 for a new wheeled bin with recycling equipment being provided free of charge when you purchase a bin.
The Council Tax you pay towards refuse collection only covers the cost of the collection service our contractors provide. You can request a new bin and make your payment by credit or debit card over the telephone on 01257 515355.
Alternatively, you can call into our offices in Union Street, Chorley, to pay. When you make a payment, your bin will be ordered and delivered within 10 working days along with any recycling containers.
Assisted collections
If you have difficulty taking your bin to the kerb side, then we can arrange for the collection crew to pull your bin out and return it back to its location. In order to receive this service you will be assessed to assess the extent of your difficulty. Please contact us by email or call 01257 515355.
Black bags
A small number of properties continue to use black bags for collection. This is where the provision and use of a wheeled bin is unsafe or inappropriate, for example in cases of difficult access, or properties with steep steps or driveways. Black bag collections can only continue by prior arrangement with us.
Garden waste
Garden waste can be used for composting. Please use your brown wheeled bin for all waste or you could contact Lancashire County Council for a free compost bin on 0845 0500110.
Collection times
The earliest time the crew can start collecting is 7am. The crews operate on a basis of "task and finish" so their finishing times will vary from day to day depending on the size of the round etc.
