Ukraine Family Scheme

If you have family who are settled in the UK, you may be able to apply to the Ukraine Family Scheme.  Please note that this scheme is not coordinated by a local authority.

Ukraine Extension Scheme

Guidance for Ukrainian nationals and their family members to apply to stay in the UK under the Ukraine Extension Scheme can be found on the governments website.  Please note that this scheme is not coordinated by a local authority. 

Homes for Ukraine Scheme

This scheme opened on 18 March 2022 for visa applications from individuals or households fleeing from Ukraine who have named people in the UK willing to sponsor them for 6-12 months.  If you would like to participate in the Homes for Ukraine scheme, then please visit the governments sponsor guidance webpage. 

There are many things to consider when signing up to the scheme and a checklist (PDF) [62KB] issued by Lancashire County Council will help you make an informed decision.  Lancashire County Council have also launched a Facebook page and a Homes for Ukraine Webpage which provides practical information for anyone in Lancashire wanting to offer their home or spare room under the scheme.

Both Lancashire County Council and Chorley Council are responsible for coordinating different aspects of the scheme.  Please see a breakdown below of these responsibilities.

Moving On

We encourage you to talk to your Guest shortly after their arrival in the UK about the options for their next steps and develop a plan for how they will move on.  Accessing social or privately rented accommodation and having the financial resources in place to support these moves requires planning.  Chorley Council hosts a monthly Sponsor Support Network and recently we delivered a series of workshops on Housing and Moving On.  You can access these below in both English and Ukrainian.

Similarly, if Guests are considering renting private accommodation, the government has published a guide to help Guests understand how to rent in England

This will help guests when they are ready and able to move out of sponsorship into independent accommodation.
