Polling district review

Every local authority is required to undertake a review of its polling districts and polling places every 5 years, with a public consultation forming part of that review. It is important to note that the review does not affect ward or constituency boundaries but is instead about the location people cast their vote.

Polling place review 2019

We completed our last review in 2019. The results of which were presented at the council meeting held on 17 September 2019. The meeting was informed that there were 170 responses to the public consultation which included 156 of those being submitted through the online survey.

Members of the council agreed that there would be no changes to existing polling district, polling place and polling station arrangements for the current wards.

The reason for this recommendation was to allow voters to attend their usual polling station should an anticipated general election be announced. It was considered that implementing changes at this stage, would result in a significant number of voters having to attend different polling stations than they would normally, which would cause confusion amongst residents. In some cases, voters may decide not to vote on this occasion citing the change of polling station as the reason.

However, the responses from the consultation were considered at greater length alongside the new warding arrangements that are due to be implemented following an electoral review of Chorley Council. A further report was submitted to the council meeting on 25 February 2020 which detailed proposed changes for approval, prior to their implementation at the next scheduled election.
