Handyperson Service

Working in partnership with Preston Care and Repair, we currently offer a free Handyperson Service to provide assistance for Chorley residents who would otherwise struggle to carry out small repairs or 'DIY' jobs.

The Handyperson Service is delivered by experienced, multi-skilled tradespeople who have all been DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) checked and carry ID cards for your peace of mind.

They can help with the following kinds of jobs:

• carrying out minor repairs
• removal of hazards that could lead to accidents
• minor improvements that lead to increased energy efficiency 
• installing minor security measures
• installing basic equipment to improve safety 

... and many other jobs that could be classed as DIY - just give them a call and ask.

Handyperson jobs will not normally take more than 2 hours to complete. It will sometimes, however, be efficient to combine numerous different jobs in one visit and this may therefore take longer.

Handyperson Service eligibility 

The Handyperson Service is available to Chorley residents aged 18+ who are owner-occupiers/private renters and...

... have a disability which directly affects their mobility or independence to stay safe in their home.

OR ... there is an imminent/major risk of the person having an unscheduled admission to hospital without intervention.

OR ... the service is needed to facilitate a discharge from hospital where it would not be deemed safe for them to return without intervention.

Charges for materials

The Handyperson Service is free for residents who meet the eligibility criteria. Service users are only required to pay for any materials that are needed to carry out the requested work. There is no charge for labour.

If you are a Chorley resident and aged 60+ but you do not meet the eligibility criteria outlined above, you may still access the service by paying an hourly rate. For further details of the pricing structure please contact Preston Care and Repair.
