A chance to see further examples drawn from the archives collections of film and video from the last 120 years showing the area's industries, traditions and customs. Presented once again by a member of the archive's staff, this selection of cinema newsreels promotional and advertising films, as well as home movies and regional television programs, is always a hit and is sure to be of interest to all with a love of history from the local area. | Friday 26 April 2024 | Ray Bradshaw: Doppelginger | Chorley Theatre | Multi award winning comedian Ray Bradshaw is forever being told "you look just like my mate..." where ever he goes. It's been happening for years and he's worried about it. Either someone is cloning generic bald men or, there's a ginger bearded bald man out there who's doing a bad job of stalking Ray. In his brand-new show Doppelginger, Ray is going to use the latest in genetic research (the internet) to try and put an end to this once and for all. He's on a quest to find the person who looks most like him. Doppelginger is a funny heartwarming comedy show about a silly search for a man with an orange beard who's follicly challenged. If you have a bald, ginger bearded friend in their 30s (true at time of writing), then bring them along. You never know - they could be The One. Ray's last show Deaf Com One was a huge success and sold out theatres across the world. The show was all about growing up with deaf parents and as a result every show of Doppelginger will have a BSL interpreter. | Sunday 28 April 2024 | Lagan's Cycle Challenge | Rivington and Blackrod High School | Join us on Sunday 28th April for our 9th annual Cycle Challenge! This event tackles the challenging inclines along the way and enjoys the fabulous views to North Wales, Cheshire and Blackpool. Now with Chip Timing! Not for the faint-hearted - don't be fooled by the distances, take a look at the inclines! If you are training for a bigger event this will be a fantastic challenge to start the spring with. We will once again be offering 3 routes to choose from allowing all abilities to come along and take part. Every cyclist who completes their selected route will receive a medal and certificate with special trophies going to the first cyclist back on each route. Light refreshments will be available at the end of the ride. MAX TIME: 5 Hours - sweeper vehicle will be in operation to collect any riders that are unable to complete the route in that time.
