Transfer a premises licence

You can apply to transfer a premises licence. If you are applying as an individual, you will need to provide proof you are entitled to work in the UK. You will also have to return the old premises licence (or your reasons for not doing so) You will need the consent to transfer of the old licence holder (or reasons you are unable to obtain this consent). The fee for this application is £23.

Once your application is served, there is a 14-day consultation period. Usually, tacit consent applies, which means you can begin trading as soon as the application is made. 

 

Vary the Designated Premises Supervisor

The Designated Premises Supervisor (DPS) should be the person who is in day to day control of the premises. They must hold a personal licence. The premises licence holder can apply to vary the licence to specify a new Designated Premises Supervisor. You will have to return the old premises licence (or your reasons for not doing so). The fee for this application is £23.

The proposed DPS will need to provide consent to be designated.

Once your application is served, there is a 14-day consultation period. Usually, tacit consent applies, which means you can begin trading as soon as the application is made. 

 

Minor variation of premises licence / club premises certificate

You can make an application for a minor variation to a premises licence. A minor variation is one which could have no adverse impact on the licensing objectives. You can make an application online, paying the fee of £89.

Vary a premises licence / club premises certificate

Any other changes to a premises licence require a full variation. The process for applying for a variation is similar to that of applying for a new licence. Further information can be found in the premises licence guidance. 

Apply to vary a premises licence

A variation cannot be used to extend a time-limited licence or transfer a licence from one premises or another. A new premises licence application should be submitted in these cases.

You will need to advertise your application for the full 28-day consultation period, which starts the day after your application is received by us, by displaying a public notice on pale blue paper at or from the premises. View sample variation of a premises licence notice (Word doc) [13KB] .

You also need to place the same wording in a local newspaper within the first 10 days of consultation.

Change of name or address- premises licence holder or DPS

The premises licence holder must, as soon as reasonably practicable, notify us if they or the DPS has changed their name or address. 

This notification is only in the circumstances where it is the same person or company but the name of that person or company changes (for example where the name has changed by marriage or deed poll). 

You should return your old licence to us and you will need to pay the fee of £10.50. You will receive a new licence with the updated information.

The club secretary must notify us within 28 days of any change to the club's rules. You will need to return your old certificate to us and pay the fee of £10.50. You will receive a new certificate with the changes.

If you are the designated premises supervisor on a premises licence, you can notify us that you wish to be removed. You must also give notice of this request to the premises licence holder and either return the premises licence to us or ask the premises licence holder to.

Surrender of premises licence / club premises certificate

Only the premises licence holder can surrender a premises licence. You can do so by notifying us in writing by email to contact@chorley.gov.uk. You should return your licence to us or give an explanation as to why you are unable to.
