A final Freedom of the Borough parade to take place through Chorley Town Centre by 3 Medical Regiment on Saturday 28 January
Residents are invited to come along to view 3 Medical Regiment - a Regular Army unit based in Preston which provides front line medical support - take their final Freedom of the Borough march through Chorley Town Centre on 28 January.
The spectacular event will see up to 120 military personnel parade through the town centre.
The Mayor of Chorley, Julia Berry and local and regional dignitaries will also be in attendance and the Chorley Pipe Band will accompany the parade situated at the Chorley Town Hall.
3 Medical Regiment was granted the historic Freedom of the Borough in 2015, but as the Regiment is due to disband in February 2023, the Regiment will exercise their Freedom in the Borough of Chorley for one last time this month.
The poignant event will begin around 10.25am on St Thomas's Road:
10.25am - Parade forms up on St Thomas's Road
10.40am - Address by the Mayor of Chorley from St Thomas' Square
11.00am - Parade sets off from Town Hall
11.30am - Parade ends at entrance to St Laurence's Church
Those wishing to view the parade must do so from St Thomas' Road (on paths), Market Street (on paths or behind barriers), St George's Street (on paths or behind barriers), Church Street (on paths), High Street (on paths) or opposite the Town Hall (layby).
Mayor of Chorley, Councillor Julia Berry said, "It's truly an honour to be a part of the 3 Medical Regiment on their final march through the borough.
"Exercising the Freedom of the Borough is of such historical significance and a tradition which is a key piece of the country's history, dating back to medieval times.
"The Regiment is due to disband in February and I hope that all of you can come along to view the parade to mark the incredible work the regiment has done since its inception in 2000 and to thank them all for their service."
3 Medical Regiment can deploy a highly qualified medical force in support of personnel from 1st (United Kingdom) Division at short notice. Personnel are trained to deliver the highest possible standards of deployed medical care wherever it is needed worldwide.
Even as the Regiment disbands, its personnel are deployed conducting a wide range of Defence Engagement activity and support to training around the world, as well as on operations in Eastern Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
3 Medical Regiment's Commanding Officer, Lieutenant Colonel Gareth Hattersley said, "As Commanding Officer it will be sad to disband the Regiment, though we do this in the knowledge that our Medical Squadrons will be resubordinated to create integrated medical units better resourced to support the Army as it restructures.
"During our time in the North West the historic link to the Borough of Chorley has provided us with a sense of belonging, for which we will forever be grateful."
Road and some car park closures will be in place on the run up to, and during the event.
Stewards and Police will be situated across the route who can offer advice and information if needed.
