Animal boarding licence
A licence is required if you provide accommodation to other people's dogs or cats.
Accommodation includes commercial kennels, catteries, home boarding and day care centres.
We may call upon the service of an approved vet for new applications.
Apply for an animal boarding licence
To apply for an animal boarding licence please complete the Animal Boarding Application Form (Word doc) [156KB] and return it by email to contact@chorley.gov.uk or by post to Civic Offices, Union Street, Chorley, PR7 1AL.
We aim to process your application within 21 days.

Before we can process your application, we must first receive payment. Please make your payments using our automated payments line on 01257 515151, please make sure you obtain a receipt number.
Before applying for any animal welfare licence, you may wish to discuss your business proposal with us first. You can do this by submitting a general enquiry.

Day Care Licence (Domestic) - £178 (non-refundable application fee), £120 fee payable on grant of licence.
Day Care Licence (Commercial) - £178 (non-refundable application fee), £150 fee payable on grant of licence.
Licences can be issued for 1, 2 or 3 years depending on the outcome of inspection and you must submit a renewal application before the end of your licence for it to be classed as a renewal.
Home boarding dogs
Home Boarding Licence - £178.00 (non-refundable application fee), £120 fee payable on grant of licence.
Licences can be issued for 1, 2 or 3 years depending on the outcome of inspection and you must submit a renewal application before the end of your licence for it to be classed as a renewal.
Animal boarding licence evaluation criteria
The following criteria will be considered when the application is being evaluated:
- animals will be kept in suitable accommodation at all times
- suitable food, drink and bedding materials will be provided and that animals are exercised and visited regularly
- steps are taken to control the spread of disease among the animals
- adequate protection is provided to the animals in case of fire and other emergencies
- a register is kept containing a description of animals received, their arrival and departure date and name and address of the owner.
